Eloping in Wasatch Mountains

The Wasatch Range, located in Utah, offers stunning natural scenery with its towering peaks, lush forests, and alpine lakes, making it a perfect backdrop for a private wedding. No wonder the mountains attract people from all over the USA not only in a skiing season (great idea if you're looking for skiing elopement) but especially in the spring and summer. Many eloping couples want the beauty of nature and those majestic mountain peaks and although Colorado is the main elopement destination in the summer, the Wasatch offer great spots in the spring and well into fall.

Best Wasatch Mountain Elopement Locations

This is just to name a few. I wrote more detailed guide on best elopement locations near Salt Lake City, and best wedding venues in Utah (with emphasis and proximity to Salt Lake City) but below are the main areas with some great elopement spots. I provide detailed location guide and scouting to all couples who book an elopement with me.

Big Cottonwood Canyon: Known for its breathtaking views and accessibility, this canyon offers several spots like Lake Blanche or Donut Falls for a picturesque ceremony.

Little Cottonwood Canyon: Home to iconic locations such as Snowbird and Alta, this area provides both summer and winter options with majestic mountain vistas.

Albion Basin: Famous for its wildflower meadows in the summer, this is a magical place for a romantic elopement.

Guardsman Pass: A scenic spot that offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, ideal for sunset ceremonies and those who want to stay closer to Park City.

Mirror Lake: Located in the Uinta Mountains, east of the Wasatch Range but still close to SLC. This lake offers serene and reflective waters that make for a peaceful setting with many easy and accessible hiking trails.

Tibble Fork Reservoir this is a very popular photo location due to its easily accessible mountain views year round. the best to shoot there is for sunrise, otherwise this location gets very crowded especially in the summer.

Foothills Near Salt Lake City: some of the best hikes are located just at the foothills of SLC and the best thing about them is not only proximity to the city but also lower elevation which means less snow in the spring and shoulder season but also green hills with wildflowers as early as April.

Best Time o Elope in the Wasatch Mountains

Summer (June to September): Perfect for wildflowers, greenery, and accessible trails. Higher elevations may still have some snow early in the season.

Fall (October to November): The fall foliage in the mountains is stunning, with vibrant colors creating a gorgeous backdrop. Some of my favorite fall elopement locations include Provo Canyon or Guardsmann Pass up Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Winter (December to March): If you love snow, winter offers a wonderland-like setting with snowy peaks and cozy vibes.

Spring (April to May): Early spring might still have snow, but as it melts, the landscape becomes lush and vibrant.

Romantic Elopement in Salt Lake City

Other logistics to consider when eloping or getting married in the Wasatch Mountains are things such as permits, accommodation, restaurants and local vendors. Luckily due to proximity to Salt Lake City finding good restaurant for celebrations, or photo and portrait locations shouldn't be hard at all.

Look for cabins, lodges, or even glamping options nearby to extend your stay and enjoy the mountain ambiance. Places like Park City or Heber Valley have beautiful accommodations with mountain views. Salt Lake City

is another great option to base yourself out off. With major airport just 20 min from downtown and plethora of great restaurants: it makes for the perfect spot for your romantic elopement near Wasatch Mountains. My clients Michelle and Andrew chose the Wasatch Mountains for their elopement mainly because of the beauty and easy access to Salt Lake City. they elopement in late May and witnessed beautiful arrowhead bloom (the yellow wildflowers). They also wrote their intimate vows overlooking Salt Lake City and exchanged them to each other at sunset after romantic picnic. There are many way to celebrate your love for each other and there are so many beautiful mountain locations outside of Colorado that are much more accessible. The Wasatch Mountains are a great example.
