Guide to Salt Lake City Elopement

I live in Salt Lake City, UT and I can guarantee that the city offers many amazing, private and beautiful elopement locations within 30-45 min drive. If Cityscape isn't your vibe and you prefer mountains SLC has mountains to the east with our favorite Cottonwood Canyons, but also the foothills make for great location with shorter hikes but stunning sunsets. To the West you have Antelope Island State Park and 2h away are the famous Bonneville Salt Flats. If you're interested in reading more about eloping at the salt flats go to my blog.

What to know in order to elope in Slat Lake City, Ut:

  • No matter where you are coming from, you will need your marriage license. In Utah you can apply for it online, or go to any county clerk and apply in person. Both of you have to be present with your ID's ready. The marriage license costs around $50 and Utah has no waiting time, so you can get married right away but the license expires in 32 days.
  • You will need an officiant to legally marry you (I am ordained to marry couples in UT so eloping with me saves you on officiant's fees). You can also have any relative get ordained to marry you in UT, there are many resources online.
  • As far as locations for your elopement in Salt Lake City go, I wrote detailed guide and you can read it here, but in general you can choose between mountains, foothills, the salt flats, sand dunes or beautiful forests.

If you are looking to elope n the mountains and don't mind hiking to find your elopement spots here are some of the most breathtaking hikes near Salt Lake City.

  • Lake Blanche up Big Cottonwood Canyon is one of the most popular hikes but for reason. This 7 mile rt loop takes you through beautiful forest to a stunning lake.
  • Dog Lake if you like beautiful fall foliage and yellow aspen in the fall.
  • Hikes in the foothills- some are short some are longer but in general any trail will offer you beautiful city views and sunsets. The scenery varies but most likely you will see dwarf maples and golden grasses with some yellow wildflowers in the summer.
  • Albion Basin is a classic wildflower hike especially in July - August. Get ready for crowds but once you see the amount of wildflowers you will understand why this hike is so popular.

Places to Eat After Your SLC Elopement

Salt Lake City has many great restaurants to pick from, but you have to do some research to find the. Here is a list of my favorite restaurants:

  • If you want something more fancy and more expensive the Log Have is the place. They are located up Millcreek Canyon, in a beautiful woodsy setting.
  • If you want good and authentic Mexican I recommend Red Iguana, and healthier take at Mexican food Mi Buena Vida in Sugarhouse.
  • If you prefer Asian food and nice ambiance Somi is an excellent Vietnamese restaurant.
  • Another one we like is Italian with a twist: Cosmica, voted one of the best restaurants in USA bye NYT.
